Looking to finance a home?

For a lot of people, applying for mortgage financing is one of the most distressing aspects of buying a house. But it doesn't have to be. Being close to some lenders in the Lakewood area has helped me recognize a few things that will make the loan application process much easier.

1 – Assemble a list of questions regarding your loan program

If you do not totally comprehend the pros and cons of the different financing options, be sure to bring a list of questions with you. I or one of my lenders will be able to assist you with understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each one, because it is hard to understand the characteristics of both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Decide when to lock

When you lock in the interest rate, a lender is sure to keep to the mortgage interest rates for the loan – typically at the time the loan application is sent in. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate at any time between application and closing. Buyers who prefer to float think the interest rates will fall in the near future. 3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to reduce your rate

If you decide to pay additional points to lower the interest rate of your loan, you'll pay for them in cash at closing. Every point is 1 percent of the loan. Click here to use our points calculator. It will help you determine if buying points is right for you.

4 – Compile your paperwork

Obtaining a loan requires lots of paperwork, so you should take some time to get your documents together. Click here to preview typical information that goes on a loan application.
